Deck ready!

I got this cool rocking chair at a sale for around 14 dollars. I just had to bring it home, you know about my chair addiction! After a real good all over scrubbing, I painted it white.
Then I got busy with the sand paper. I sanded where it would normally be worn.
I love where the wear and tear and the old yellow paint shows thru.
Then I added a walnut acrylic paint as a stain.
I can't wait to put it on the deck . I think it's a great addition to my wicker furniture.

Keep Thinkin' Spring!

It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain

Pomander

Some of you may know that I have a small collection of pomanders, or china scent holders. Basically they are all ball shaped except for one egg shaped. There is a plug in the bottom so you can put powder or potpourri in them.I went out antiquing/junking on Saturday and found this awesome bird shaped one. Of course, I had to buy it!
It was a little more than the usual 1 to 4 dollars I spend but still under $10.
The bottom says Jamestown China which I haven't had time to check out yet. I think it's a great addition to my collection especially since I seem to be hooked on birds lately.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my littlest sweetie, Payton's first birthday! She certainly has a different disposition than her sister.
She is either really happy or unhappy. No happy medium for her!
She loves her big sister but will also fight her own battles with her.
Mostly she makes us smile or laugh out loud with her antics and she always makes life interesting!
Happy First Birthday, Payton Max! Gramma loves her little sweetie!

Gramma and Jerzie Day

Jerzie came to spend the night on Sunday for a little one on one with Gramma. I spotted this x in the sky so we had to go out and look at it. Super cool, according to Jerzie! We had a special project we had to work on for Mommy but it's a surprise. I'll tell you when I can. We spent a good share of our time on it and really had fun.
Mommy, Daddy and Payton came for supper, 'Warm and Fuzzy', boiled dinner.
I gave the girls their Valentine presents. As you can see Payton's fits perfectly!
I can't think of a better way to spend a day!

Fireplace decor

It's good to be back with Show and Tell! I'd like to show you a fireplace decoration (I'm not sure what it's called?) I found at an antique store.I loved it the minute I saw it! I have no idea what era it is from. It is made of very thick cardboard and stands like a picture frame.
It adds a perfect pop of color to my dining room mantle and even has a bird on it.
The best part is it was only 5 dollars! Anyone have any idea what year it is from?

Impulsive

I can be very impulsive at times. There are times when it wasn't too smart, like when I cut off the bottom of my old cupboards so my microwave would fit. After I was done I decided I didn't want it there after all.
Sometimes it's a really good idea but just maybe, I should have gotten some help, like when I decided my kitchen would look bigger if I switched the stove and frig. It really made a big difference but I spent all day and several trips to the hardware to extend the gas pipe. Being that my house was old, it was a job and some one that knew what they were doing could probably have done it in an hour. On the up side, it didn't cost much!
Then there are times I seem impulsive but I'm not, like when I bought my car. Every one thought I made a quick decision but in reality I'd thought about it for months and done some research.
Today I was impulsive! It was something I had thought about for a long time and just decided this morning to go ahead. As you can see in the first picture I had a stained chair rail over the white bead board. When I first did the kitchen the bead board was white washed to look more rustic. A few years ago, when the polyurethane I sealed it with was turning yellow (as poly will always do!) I painted it white.
Today I decided to paint the chair rail too. I looked around and realized there wasn't much to paint so why not. Well, I didn't even think about the fact that I would have to move the stove and frig. We all know what that means! Washing the walls, scrubbing the floor and vacuuming the appliances. I also didn't remember that I got my stitches out yesterday and still couldn't put my hand in water, especially dirty water!

I wore a glove and it does feel good to have at least part of the kitchen clean. I also thing it was a good decision. What do you think? Did you ever impulsively do something stupid?

Think spring!

I'm seeing a lot of archive garden pictures in blogland lately. I guess I'm not the only one longing for spring! I thought I should add some eye candy archive shots of a pairing of two favorites, foxglove and mulleins ( a type of verbascum). As I sit here unable to work for another week, I stare out the window imagining what I will do with my new garden finds.I will show you those as soon as my new camera gets here, which should be very soon. Fortunately, I hadn't spent all my Christmas money and had just enough left for a camera.I went for my biopsy last week and the Dr couldn't find what she wanted to test! I thought it was just a pimple but knew I should go anyway just to be safe.
I'm still not sure what is going on with my job. Since I'm on disability they haven't made any decisions about my employment yet. I get my stitches out tomorrow and will be able to go back to the store the first of March.
I've been busy putting away my snowmen and adding a little taste of spring to my decor. Of course, I'll continue to stare out the window and think spring!

Update

I had my carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand done yesterday. All went well except for the Dr running in hour late (I was the first surgery of the day!) Thanks Chris and Laurie for giving up another day for me! No pain meds so far.
I filled out an application for Tops and they say they will try to keep us all. Meeting at the end of the week for all of us so we should find out more then. Went to the dentist again but the new partial still isn't right. One more impression, that makes 5 so far! yuck! Biopsy at my dermatologist on Thurs.
Wouldn't you know my 5 years is up for a colonoscopy! That will be on the back burner until everything else is done.
I bet you can't wait to be 60!
