It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

 Welcome!
Today it's all about my Japanese Anemone or Windflowers.  We are having a lovely autumn day with a nice breeze and you can see why this plant is called Windflowers.  The blooms grow about 12 inches or more above the mounding foliage and they are swaying gently in the fall breeze.  I only have 4 varieties now but I'm always on the lookout for a new one.

 King Henry

 Max Vogel

 Honorine Jobert

In my area they do well in shade or full sun. They can take over but are easy to controll.  Each large mound is made up of several small plants so they can be pulled out as needed.  Established plants can grow to 5 feet tall.

I think there is beauty in every stage of this bloom.  The green center expands after the blooms are spent and eventually pops open full of fluffy seeds.

The only drawback is that you need to be careful around them because the bees love them too!

Since all the gardens seem to be waning, this will be the last Bloomin' Tuesday post for this garden season.

It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

 Welcome!
The best looking blooms this week are in the small garden that my
Granddaughters planted with seeds.

What is still bloomin' in your garden?

It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

 Welcome!
We are back to our hot dry weather but it is supposed to rain tonight or tomorrow.  I took the girls to the Audubon Butterfly Festival where I took these butterfly pictures.

 Waiting for breakfast!
My son bought me a Concord grape plant about 5 years ago.  It's had a few grapes on it every year.  This year it was full of grapes!  I took this pic last week and they weren't quite ready to harvest.
I went to check on them this week and this is what I found!
Something was hungry!  Not a bunch left!  One of these years I might get to taste one.

It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

 Welcome!
We are having perfect summer days as far as I'm concerned. Sunny and 70's!  I lost my curly willow tree that I started from a branch, this summer. I did love that tree but willows have soft wood and it got a disease.  Within 2 weeks of noticing that the ends of the branches were brown, the whole tree was brown.
I decided to replace it with a Proven Winner, Fine Line, Buckthorn, Rhamnus frangula.  This 'shrub' almost looks like a grass.  It likes full sun, grows to 60 to 84 inches and 36 inches across and is deer resistant. (I don't have that problem here but I know some of you do!)
I like the upward growth and the speckled bark. (Click to enlarge pic.)
My absolute favorite late summer or fall plant Japanese Anemone, is beginning to bloom. This one is in front of the wild garden.  I love everything about this plant!  It is really several small plants but they are pretty mounding plants with nice leaves all summer.
The graceful blooms grow above the leaves and are also called wind flowers.  This one is my favorite bloom. I love the color that is slightly darker on the back, the simple 4 petal bloom and the round plump buds.
This one is in the middle garden.  These plants will grow in full sun to mostly shade.  I have some in my shade garden, too.
This one is a darker pink, double flower. I have more that will probably be open next week so I will show them then and look up the name for each. The only down side is, they can take over.  I don't mind because people are always asking for some for their garden.

It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

Welcome to another Bloomin' Tuesday!
We have been having cool rainy weather that makes everyone happy!
This little area is my Granddaughters' seed garden.  It's all confined to a smaller area than I had ready for them (They planted the seeds themselves) but they are very happy to see so many blooms.
There are blue Balloon flowers, orange Corcosia and lots of Black-eyed Susans blooming in the wild garden.
The orange lanterns are getting oranger every day on the other side of the house.
I have 3 hydrangea that got hit by the frost this spring and didn't bloom but I can always count on ther Limelight!  The blooms are huge!
I love them when they are green.
I'd love to see what's bloomin' in your garden.  Add your name and permalink to Mr Linky and add a link to this post on your blog post.
Happy Bloomin' Tuesday!
