Green Thumb Sunday

There aren't a lot of blooms in my garden right now so I have to depend on the plants themselves to add some interest. When plants are blooming we sometimes don't notice the different colors and textures of the leaves. I've posted a few plants that are standing out in my garden now.

What's standing out in your garden?

Busy day!

No time for a real post today. I'm helping my elderly neighbor. She said the other day she really needed a new ceiling in her kitchen because her deceased husband had always smoked in there but she really couldn't afford it. It's a drop ceiling so I told her we could paint the blocks with a good sealer/primer and it would look better and wouldn't cost much. I've been taking down a few blocks a day for her to paint. Today I went over after I closed the beauty shop and worked for a couple hours putting up and taking down blocks and cleaning the metal stripping . Now I have to go to the grocery store and work. The painting is making such a difference that we are both anxious to get done.

I'll leave you with my new exercise program. You should all give it a try!

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 50
Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty
of room to each side.
With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.
Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.
Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.
After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks.
Then try 50lb. potato sacks, and then eventually try to get to where you
can lift a 100-lb. potato sack in each hand
and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute
(I'm currently at this level).
After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

Outside

Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.
Go to Kelly's House to see everyone who posted "Show and Tell" for today.

Today I thought I'd show you my outside Fall decorations.
The arrangement on the left is stuff from my garden. The pumpkin is heavy resin. I've never put it outside before so I hope it holds up okay.

This is the side entrance.
I made the window box this year and I just love it! You can see how I made it here.
It's quite hard to take a picture because of the glare.
This is what I put in for Fall. It will be so much fun changing it for holidays and seasons.

More fall decor

Welcome to my home! This rustic piece hangs on my kitchen wall. I got it for outside but decided I liked it inside.

A few pumpkins and leaves on my living room tables.
Leaf floating candles in with my feather balls.
I made this arrangement from seed heads and stuff from my garden. It's on my dining room table on a porch piece I got in a box of wood at the auction. I bought the little bird for Christmas presents last year but couldn't part with them.
Over the kitchen sink. Click to enlarge and see my favorite bird.
A bench in the kitchen.

An alcove going to the basement or the deck, in the kitchen. I painted this plate several years ago.
Kitchen table and another bird.
Side entry. I also painted this several years ago. The table was new from Big Lots and I crackled and aged it.
Wooden bowl on the kitchen counter. I got the candle topper at a household sale this week.
Outside tomorrow.

Today would have been my parents wedding anniversary. To read my tribute and see pictures click here.

Fall decor

Today I thought I would start showing you my fall decorations. I usually only decorate my outside and entry but this year I decided to put a little throughout the house. I use mostly different pumpkins.I got this metal frame at Big Lots and just put a bittersweet swag on the bottom. This is the back side of the front door.

This is the door that goes from the entry into the living room. I just put together some leaves and twigs and tied it together and added a bow.
I keep a small chair in the entry most of the time to use for more places to put my "stuff". My entry is very small and a chair in the corner doesn't interfere with the doors opening.

Here's the cute fall house I got at a household sale.
I took down coat hooks several years ago on this side of the entry and added a pegged board. I got the iron piece a long time ago and leave it up all year. I just put different things in it for the seasons. There isn't room for a shelf that sticks out so this works well.
That's it for the entry. Tomorrow I'll show you inside.

Apple Farm

I took a trip to the apple farm today. They don't have all the different varieties of apples in yet but they have lots of other fall items.Corn stalks
Crates and bags of apples.
Indian corn in all colors.
Squash
And of course pumpkins
Seemed a little strange going today because it looks like a beautiful fall day but it's 80 and humid!

Shoe monster!

Last week Jerzie and I went shoe shopping. She needed a little dressier shoe than her gym shoes to wear with dresses and skirts. I'm afraid I unintentionally created a shoe monster! When we got to the shoe department, she'd pick a pair out of a box and sit right on the floor and try to put them on. We did 2 big box stores and the mall and she didn't whine once even tho she had a cold. I couldn't find her size in what I wanted so we didn't get any.

The next day I went to the next town and found her size. I took them to her on my way to work. She opened the shoe box and wanted them right on. Now she won't wear any other shoes. Mommy tried to put her sandals on but she would have no part of it.As soon as she got up from her morning nap she wanted her shoes on. We were afraid we would have a hard time getting her to wear shoes since she was barefoot most of the summer. That sure isn't going to be a problem.

If she's this bad about shoes at 1 what is she going to be like as a teen?

While she was wearing her shoes yesterday, she tripped and fell into the bottom of the couch.

How do you like her purple nose? Mommy and Daddy were afraid her nose was broken but she seems okay.

Just put on her shoes and let her go!

Edit:
Here she is all fresh from her 2 hours of playing in bed. It doesn't matter that she has no clothes on, just get those shoes on!
