A mystery solved

I just realized that I told you on August 21,when I thought my computer was okay, that I would explain why I was in the kitchen all day in my next post. Well, after being offline for the rest of the week I forgot all about it until I looked at some pictures. I'm sure you haven't been able to sleep at night wondering.

My son got a deal(?) at work on some, sight unseen, bananas. A lot of bananas! My daughter-in-law brought me these Monday morning when she brought Jerzie.I baked 4 loaves of banana bread and a dozen peanut butter, banana muffins.

Someone gave Tabatha a large zucchini, too, so she asked if I would make some zucchini casserole to put in her freezer so she could have it in the winter. I also made 3 pans of casserole.

I've answered one mystery to give you another!

I went to my cousins house and scrounged around in her barn.

I came home with this.

I have a project I'm very excited about that I'm hoping to work on this weekend. You'll just have to wait until it's finished to see what it is. Any ideas?

Mulched!

Chris and Laurie brought me a pickup full of mulch. They dumped it behind the shed and I just used the wheelbarrow to move it around.
I had enough to do the lily bed,
the shade corner,
the middle garden,
and the garden by the shed.
I still have 4 areas on the side and in front that need done. I don't mulch my big garden anymore because it's wild and not much area in between plants. I afraid it's too late but I'll see if anyone has any bags left. I like the course mulch for the back but like a finer cut out front. If I can't get any I won't have to do it this year! It's a big job I'm glad is done!

Gardening station

Today I'm going to show you what I did with the $15. enamel top table I got at the auction. I'm using it as a potting table under my deck by the beauty shop back door. To see what it used to look like click here. The crates under the table hold fertilizer, ant granules, etc. Things I use often are in the old bucket from the auction. The round apple basket holds gloves.
These bug hangers hold a small rake I use often and the stirrer for the composter.
I screwed an old shelf, that was in my Mom's craft closet, to the wall. The tall bucket holds plant stakes. I found the horse shoe while digging in the shade garden in the back corner of the yard. I cut down an old fruit crate and put the end back on to make a holder for my trowels and cutters. Works like a drawer on the bottom shelf.
I like that it looks good and is also useful. The oval tin basket holds all my plant tags.
I love the table and it is protected from the elements.
I haven't filled the drawer yet but love the glass door pull. What does your gardening station look like? Do you have any great storage, decorative ideas?

The Auction

Thought I would show you my auction pictures. This tent was full! You can see and hear a video of the sale of this cart here.
All this wicker and I didn't buy any! My deck is pretty full already. This table and chairs went for $20.
The owners grandfather was rocked in the cradle. This old sign was from the small town I grew up in. I don't remember the Spic'n'Span Store.
The metal sign was found in an old trunk. It was for insurance and sold for $120.
I got one pile of these old windows for a buck! The bikes sold for a dollar each. Here's Mike at the beginning of the auction.

I'll show you what I've done with all my great purchases in the weeks to come.

I'm back!

My personal computer whiz and favorite son-in-law got me back online! There was a problem in the tower that messed with my connection. I hope that's not too technical for anyone!
It was cold and rainy here yesterday for Jerzie day. After an early, quick trip to Walmart we spent the day inside. This throw belongs on my chair but
it's soft and has fringe so Jerzie helped herself to it!
Can you see the fringe in her fingers?
I wasn't sure what she was doing here but soon found out.
Putting it just so before she laid on it.
Nothing like cuddling on a hard wood floor!
I kept sneaking out of the kitchen to see what she was up to and snap a picture. She had to have this throw and a cotton one with fringe in bed with her. I tried to take one out and she got upset. There won't be any room left for her pretty soon!
I'll tell you tomorrow what I was doing in the kitchen.

Green Thumb Sunday

Today I'm showing you what I would have to say is my all time favorite flower. I know, I have a lot of favorites but I do love everything about this plant.

I love the way that it mounds and looks so full.
I love the shape of the leaves and the dark burgundy stems.
I love the way the buds grow above the leaves so gracefully and I love their color and how plump they get before they open.
I love the simple pink flowers. I love that is blooms now when a lot of other flowers are gone.
This is the Japanese Anemone, Amemone x hybrida. It will grow in full sun (in cooler climates), partial shade or shade in hot climates. There are other types and I will show you some when they bloom, but this one is my favorite. They spread quickly and look best when planted in clumps.
I wrote a short post about them last year that you might get a chuckle out of. Check it out here.
So there you have it! My all time favorite. What's yours?
I have a truck load of mulch in my backyard, so guess where I'm going. Come on over and give me a hand if there's nothing to do in your garden! (hehe!!)
