This is a picture of my Mom. I'm not sure why she's all dressed up but she looks about the age to start school. There is nothing written on it so I'll just pretend! I thought I would show you some pages from my Gospel Primer in honor of school starting. This book was in some family stuff but there is no name in it. It was copyrighted in 1894 and is the eighth edition. My Grandma was born in 1900 so it must have come from her or Grandpa's family.
The first page talks about learning to read by the "Word Method". Click to enlarge to read about it. Each letter has a "slate exercise" of words.
I love the color of the pages and the graphics.
It's not hard to come up with words for the "hard letters" in the Bible!
The next part of the book has larger drawings and is all Bible stories.
When my kids were in school I used to like September. I was ready to had some structure again. Having regular bed times was always good being a single parent. Once I knew the kids were down for the night I could really relax. Do you like returning to a schedule?

Back in the '80's I would put the kids to bed early then watch my favorite shows so, yes I enjoyed back to school quite a bit.
What a nice heirloom you have in that book!
:)
What a wonderful picture of your mom as a schoolgirl! That book is also precious...love the way it showed how to write the letters of the alphabet! I loved it when the boys would return to school and I could put them to bed early and have the evenings to myself once again:-) xox
