Candy cane bathroom

I have candy canes and snowmen in my little bathroom. I had a few last year and Laurie gave me more candy canes for Christmas. This cabinet is over the toilet.

My tiny bathroom window. Can you see the candy cane in the berries on top of the window? The window is so small, I made a shade with a vintage linen towel.

The tissue box I found at a sale and repainted.

Of course my candy cane box is in this room. It sets on a table next to the pedestal sink.

Vintage

Today I'm joining joining Vintage Christmas Monday. This is a corner cupboard in my living room filled with family treasures and items I have found at household sales. I don't know about you but I love the look of vintage! These are odds and ends that I have found at sales. The tall snowman is actually a glass tree ornament.

I loved these bell angels the minute I saw them. They have a few flaws but that just tells me that they were enjoyed.

I will buy most any small wax figure that I find. You can't have too many carolers!

I remember the angel tree topper in the back and the carolers from my childhood but can't remember who had them.

This nativity was ours when I was growing up. This is not the original stable, my daughter uses that for her nativity.

These figures are made of wax and I have never seen any. I would love to know more about it. Can you help me out? It has actually held up pretty well for its age.

I think this shepherd is my favorite.

I'm thinking...

...inside the box!

I have filled some old boxes to add to my Christmas decor this year. These boxes are not permanent so I can use them for other seasons and the items are not ruined by glue.. I fill them with basket filler and/or greens to help secure them. This is actually a sewing machine drawer. I found this darling girl dressed for winter in a outlet junk store . The glass deer was in a bottom of a box of Christmas stuff at a household sale.
This box is in my bathroom where I have a candy cane theme. It has 3 separate areas, each filled with basket filler and all topped with 'snow'.

I've picked up the canvas, wood and pipe cleaner candy canes a craft shows.

This red metal box is on my dining room table. My mantle is in this room and I chose a Santa theme this year for my Granddaughters. A couple old books and Santas and some greens is all it takes.

I've used a vintage tree skirt for a table topper.

Dig thru you boxes of Christmas stuff and use your imagination to think inside the box the Christmas!

Santa

Thank you for all your kind comments about my new car.

I finally got my decorating done (except for my blog and beauty shop). It seems like it took forever this year. Do you think I might be moving slower?I usually do the mantle with white lights and greens but I decided that Jerzie would like a Santa theme better.
I have a small collection of old, new and in between.
I also have some cute Santa stocking holders.

The Saturday Evening Post is a jigsaw puzzle my Mom had.
I don't plan on leaving the stockings hanging for long. Payton grabs at everything and I wouldn't want Santa to fall on her.

Now I can sit back and enjoy the decorations!

Present!

I just have a few little things to finish my decorating so I promise I will get back into blogging! First I would like to show you the present I bought myself. I had a retirement goal to get a brand new car and have it paid off before I retire. I was concerned because they were going to quit making PTCruisers and I loved mine. 2010 will be the last year, but then I looked at the prices for a new car and decided that was out.A local dealer advertised a 2009 PT in a 'Black Friday' ad that only had 1,000. miles. Yes, you read that right, one thousand miles!
I know only women are supposed to be fickle but some MAN bought it on a whim and decided after a few miles that he really wanted a truck!

It actually had 1300 when I took possession on Monday. This is my first 'new' car and hopefully will be my last car purchase. I couldn't pass up a 'brand new' car (with the brand new car smell!) at a used car price! Don't you love the color? I do!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, happy Presidents Day, Happy Valentines Day, Happy Birthday to me......for the next 5 years to me!

I've gotten everything out except my village houses, linens and pillows and

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN,

FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,

AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE,

FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

GOBBLED UP TURKEY

AND BUTTERED POTATOES

PICKLES AND CARROTS,

BEANS AND TOMATOES

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING

SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,

'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN,

I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING,

FLOATING INTO THE SKY,

WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING

AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.

BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL

AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....

HAPPY EATING TO ALL -

PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,

MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.

Elephants?

Today I'm going back in time because I'm still blogger brain dead many of you probably missed this the forst time around. This is my first Show and Tell post in September 2007.

This bean has been in a small brown envelope in a drawer in my Mom's secretary for as long as I can remember. I have no idea how old it is or where it came from. All I know is we (my brother and I) have always been fascinated by the bean.

So what is with this bean? It is full off....
elephants!!
Yes, inside this bean are ten elephants!
These carved ivory elephants are about the size of the flame on the dime. Are you fascinated like me? Have you ever seen anything like this? I would love to find out more about it.

Magical Seeds From India
The owner of a magical seed will be granted a wish for each elephant contained inside it.
So goes the Hindu legend, anyway! And this tiny little seed comes from the "kunda-mani" which is the famous "good luck tree" of India. The shiny red seeds are often referred to as Circassian seeds, presumably in reference to the legendary beauty of the ancient land of Circassia and are produced by a tropical Asian tree called the red sandalwood. The top of the seed has been carefully removed and a carved elephant stopper put in its place. This elephant carefully guards your wishes inside the seed. There are a varying number of little elephant wishes inside, usually from about 7 to 12, although you will have to use a great deal of imagination to see anything resembling an elephant in the pieces. Seed measures 3/8 inch across and including elephant stopper, stands 1/2 inch tall. A great conversation piece and who knows?......perhaps your good luck awaits you here!

Our weather has been so mild I've gotten a lot of outdoor work done that I didn't get to this summer. My gardens are cleaned up better than they have ever been.

I added an extra row of bricks to the short path from the sidewalk to the street. I planted more vinca around this tree. Can you see that it is still blooming?
I've edged the entire from yard. I'm really happy to have this done because I shouldn't need to redo it in the spring.

The bonus?

This lovely blooming primrose! They love cool weather and decided to show how happy they are!

I also read what I think will be a great recycling/garden tip. Lay your old carpet pieces where you are planning to add gardening space. In the spring the grass/weeds will be gone and you will have good soil underneath. I might give this a try. It sure beats using weed killer.
