While drinking my coffee and looking out the window this morning I spotted something in the back yard. Of course I ran for my camera. I'm not sure what this pair of ducks were doing. Could they be looking for a place to nest? They stayed in the yard for at least 10 minutes. Sorry the pictures aren't too clear but I was on my second story deck and didn't want to scare them off.
The neighbors cat was meowing like crazy so both ducks stood completely still for several minutes. I'm really glad she didn't let it out.
Finally they headed for the neighbors back yard. For those who don't know, I live in the city not far from a 4 lane and the hospital. My short brick street is tree lined and fairly quiet because we are in a 'valley'. I have had raccoons, woodchucks, a possum and rabbits, but never ducks.

What a fun surprise. I think they heard about your place -- that it was so inviting -- and wanted to check it out as a possible roost!
We get a pair of ducks in our yard and the neighbor's yard each Spring. Last year the pair brought a friend along with them.

The ducks that come see us each year stay for a short time before flying off to parts unknown.
Here's hoping that Mr. and Mrs. Mallard settle down at Ms. Jean's!
That would be so amazing if they settled down in your lawn!
That is so cool! We've had all of the other critters you mentioned except for woodchucks--we even had a deer early one morning. I know ducks and geese fly over our house however I've never seen any strutting around in our yard.
What fun! Do you live near water? It would be so interesting if they had a nest where you could watch them.
We used to live a few miles from the river. We had a pair of ducks in our yard. Our neighborhood was full of little kids, dogs, cats etc. and yet they nested in our shrubbery. When the ducklings hatched they paraded down the middle of the street and left the neighborhood.

I am sure they were checking out your place and see if they could make a wonderful home somewhere. LOL! So cute! :)
