Batman!

I had a "batman" here yesterday and it's now official! I have bats in my attic! He climbed into the hole in the ceiling that goes to my attic and saw them.
He says that I am fortunate (?) because I don't have a colony, because they are having babies now. Apparently I have a bunch of bachelor bats that hang out together until they get lucky! No wonder they were hanging out at 3 in the morning! My girlfriend always said all she could attract were "old men, dogs and flies". I think that's better than "bachelor bats" any day!
"Batman" went over my whole house inside and out to try to figure out where they were getting in. He found a couple places. Next they come back and caulk every space that's 1/4 inch or bigger on the outside of the house and put in a funnel in one place they are getting in. I have a pretty large old house so that will take awhile. The bats will be able to leave but not get back in. That will stay in place for 2 weeks to make sure they are all gone.
He's coming back to caulk next Monday and 2 weeks after that I should be bat free. The work is warranted for a year, as well it should be for $800.!
Would you like to know how to tell bat poop from mouse poop or is that way too much information? When you crush bat poop it has shiny particles in it. They are from the wings of the bugs they eat!
I'm certainly not happy about spending the money but I will be very happy to be bat free!

I like bats! They eat nasty insects, like mosquitos. Embrace your bats, Jean! :)

Hi Jean -- I am catching up on my post-Nana blog reading. Miss a few days, miss a lot. I LOVE Jerzie's new bathing suit and blow up pool (this will be me next year, tee-hee.) I love the foxglove header -- I LOVE foxglove. And congrats on fidning a batman. I so love knowing the difference between mouse poop and bat poop -- how have I gone this long in life not knowing that? Amazing.

Wow bats in the attic. I think bats are a protected animal in Britain and need a professional to remove them like you have had.

Thank goodness someone is going to get rid of them for you! It would scare me so much I wouldn't be able to sleep at night!

It looks like you worked hard in your garden. All that digging is a lot of work, but it's so worth it when everything is done and looking so nice.
