The girls and I went on a mystery trip when they stayed over on Sat. As we were driving, I told Jerzie we were going across the lake in our car but not on a bridge. She said we'd have to find a really big boat to do that!I took them on the Bemus Point-Stow Ferry that goes across Chautauqua Lake. As you can see, it has been in operation for 199 years. Luckily there are a group of people that do the work to keep it going and volunteers operate it. It runs in the summer on weekends and the cost is any donation.
Driving up to the ferry on the Stow side.
Here comes our ride!
The ferry holds nine cars at a time. The operators let all the kids blow the horn and ring the bell. Sorry I didn't get pics of my Sweeties but I was more concerned about keeping hold of Payton and the trip went really fast.
When I was a kid this was the only way to get across the lake. Now we have the bridge in the background.

What a fun experience for all of you and a great history lesson too. You are such a fun grandmother!
You are the best grandmother!! I want to ride on this too.
Sounds like a great time with the grands bringing back your own sweet memories. Uummmmmm ice cream is a winner in my book.
Oh, the fun things grandmas get to do!
The ferry ride IS a great way to get to Bemus Point.
We don't have any ferries around here. There are some steam boats a couple hours away. We never got our kids there. Maybe our grandson would like to go, or we could take our kids along, too.
It sounds like you had a fun time.
