Bird Banding!

I took the girls on a surprise road trip to a bird banding at the Audubon this morning . I had never seen it done myself so we all enjoyed it. We were the only ones there except for the helpers so we got a 'birds eye view'! Our Audubon does it from 7 to 11 every Sat. morning in May. The catch! It was very windy so there weren't as many birds flying as usual. They caught 2 birds, in very fine nets, while we were there.
Both girls were afraid to touch it, everyone was given a chance.
Applying the band.
Such delicate work.
All done.
Just look at the wonder on Payton's face.
Jerzie really enjoyed it and didn't want to leave, even tho she was more timid.
Taking pictures.
Measuring the wing.
Weighing, see the tail feathers sticking out of the bottle?
The release!
The bird is taken out of the bottle and placed in a hand. The bird flies off immediately so I couldn't get a picture. Kids are given the chance to release. Jerzie didn't want to try, maybe next year!
Now it's nap time then Jerzie has a birthday party to go to.
