The first thing I did was dig out all the primroses in the garden between the stairs to the beauty shop and the house. They haven't been blooming well for the last couple years so I decided to move them. There were 4 flats full! I had decided I wanted a dish garden. No, not the garden in a dish you get when you're in the hospital but...
I moved all the foxgloves, that were never planted in this garden, to the back and used some of the new plants for the front.
Then I 'planted' some pretty dishes I bought at secondhand stores.
Mostly I used plates but I couldn't resist this bowl.

I'm happy with the way my version of a 'dish garden' turned out. Of course, it'll look better when the plants bloom.

I have seen dishes used this way too. I like the way it turned out.
I am a dishaholic... love pretty bowls and plates and cups and saucers. Your dish garden is a cute and novel idea but I kept seeing those dishes on my table, especially the bowl. How pretty was that!!!
I saw a similare thing in a garden on the street behind me. I confess I thought it strange at the time. So now I know its a dish garden.
I have 3 plates like the one in the foreground of the photo 3rd from the bottom. I used to have them in a plate rack on the wall. They are antiques. I remember the pattern from my childhood. That makes me an antique, too. Ha.

Love the dish garden idea! It will be beautiful as the plants fill it. Have a great weekend and Happy weeding!!
That is so pretty and such a neat idea. You have such a pretty garden. I'm tempted to try this but I have a bunch of boys, so I might have to wait a few years.
What a great idea, I' might just hve to be a copy cat:)

Very pretty dish garden, Jean! I saw a garden once where the gardener had used old and broken dishes to line the edge of the flower bed. So cute! ~~Rhonda
