Wilted lettuce.

Wilted lettuce is a favorite summertime salad even though it isn't the best for me.
All you need is a bowlful of fresh leaf lettuce.and some crispy bacon.Add the bacon and some thin sliced onion to the lettuce.
Heat the bacon grease and add about a heaping teaspoon of sugar.
Add a splash of vinegar (be careful because it bubbles up)Pour over the lettuce and
there you have it!

Wilted lettuce just like my Gramma used to make!

Hi Jean
Me again! I just had to tell you that this sounded so good I made it for our lunch today. I used baby spinach leaves as the base and added some sliced fresh mushrooms on top.
We both totally enjoyed it!

This just proves the point that almost anything can be improved with bacon. I have had a similar salad with baby spinach leaves and mushrooms too. So yummy!

My mother in law makes this salad, and it's one of my favorites. I think that's pretty much true of everyone in our entire extended family.

Your blog is looking very welcoming and is beautifully decorated for autumn, Jean. I love the wreath that you've made.
