Ike!

We got the remnants of Ike last night. We had wind up to 50 miles an hour. Since I live on a street with lots of trees I knew we'd have a mess in the morning. I only had a couple branches down but... one of my neighbors made the front page of the morning paper! This is 3 houses down from me. I called my daughter-in-law and told her to come a different way to the house. Jerzie was pretty excited to see a tree in the road but she wouldn't leave my side so I could get her picture. The tree lifted a whole slab of sidewalk and broke off the roots.
It also did a number on this car. It was hauled off on a flatbed.
Some wires were down but just cable and phone not electric.
When they lifted the tree the sidewalk slab went right back in place.
When they came to clean up Jerzie wanted to see but didn't want to go outside. I carried her but she wouldn't get down.
All loaded up and hauled away.
I have 2 huge trees in front of my house and I was a little nervous with the wind so strong but I love the trees.

boy, that must have been a scary night. I don't think I have ever been in 50 mph winds. You were very lucky!

We've experienced high winds, and they are scary. I'm so glad no one was hurt and that you didn't have any serious damage.

Wow Jean, the roots on that tree and for the wind to pull it up along with that concert slab, all I can say is wow, that was pretty strong winds! I am glad you didn't lose any of your trees. Oh by the way, I love your street with the brick! So cute!

I can certainly relate to strong winds and downed trees. You are lucky that your trees remained standing.

Wow. The Boulder area of Colorado is known for its strong winds, but we usually don't see damage like this. Isn't it amazing that it broke the tree off at the roots? Wow! Glad no one was hurt, but I feel for the owners of the car. Little Jerzie must have been really frightened to stay so close to you. She'll need a little grandma love today. :o) (Lucky you.)

On a different note. I've never seen a brick street street on a residential road. How awesome is that? It's beautiful!

Good luck in the clean-up efforts. Wish I was there to put on some gardening gloves and help out.

Wow- It is so amazing what winds can do! Those pictures are awesome! I am glad the tree hit the car, and not a house!

Glad everyone is okay. Here in Maryland we haven't had any rain from any of the hurricanes. We usually get something but not this year. Even when Hanna went up the coast. I'm glad I don't live on the coast!
