The fall crocus (colchicum)!
I'm always surprised when I spot the first one. The leaves come up in spring and are quite large and ugly, then I forget about them.
I was surprised to read that all parts on this plant are poisonous and can irritate the skin and eyes. They look so pretty and delicate.So what's bloomin' where you're planted? Your fall crocus & rain lillies are gorgeous. My Stella is still putting out an occasional bloom or two as well.
I'd never heard of fall crocus until these last couple of weeks on Bloomin' Tuesday! They are beautiful and must give you a lift after the hot summer!
Hello Jean, I love your Fall Crocus! I didn't know they were poisonous! Now I have another plant I have to worry about with Charlie the Turtle! I have some that come up around Christmas.

The rain lillies are beautiful. Do you know the species? I have rain lillies (Zephyranthes candida) that look different than these. The flower petals are similar, but yours appear to pop up out of the soil and have no blades. Mine have many blades and few flowers. Not much going on in my garden this week. It's the "calm before the storm" so to speak, as everything is just waiting for cooler weather when plants start looking good again.

I love those Rain Lilies- they are so beautiful! And the crocus are so sweet- I saw those growing up in SD!

I hope to inherit a new batch of rain lilies from my Mom this Fall. I didn't treat my old ones right last year... anyway, there's always foliage in my pot, too. Hmmm. The flowers are the same, however!
I did not know colchicum were poisonous. It makes it just a little harder to justify purchasing them if I have little neighbors and grandchildren that might pick them. Maybe I'll wait a bit for those.

I was blog hopping and found you tonight,I love your Bloomin' Tuesday flowers. What a fun ideal. I to am a gardener. I love all the flowers. But most of all I am a hosta collector. I had to leave most of my collection at my old home is St. Louis. But I was able to take samples of most. So I am starting my garden over. Along with starting my life over. I recently started blogging and found it to be fun. Thanks for your time and wonderful site.
I have never planted Fall Crocus. They are such pretty little things. I guess that's one spot in your garden Miss Jerzie will not help with!
