Show and Tell

Do you know what this is? Do your kids? This is an old long playing 33-1/3 (microgroove) record. I don't have a record player to play it on but it is still a treasure to me.
It is a record of Peter and the Wolf by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The date on it is 1949, the year I was born. My Mom liked all kinds of music including classical. When my brother and I were sick we would get to listen to Peter and the Wolf. There is a different instrument for each character. Because it was saved for special times we thought we were very lucky to listen to this wonderful music. I'm not sure if Mom had that planned out or just figured we were a captive audience when we were sick! Listening also helped fill the time until Grandpa got off work and came over to make us some of his special eggnog.

My brother called me several years ago to tell me a radio station was playing Peter and the Wolf. I have also gone to summer concerts in our park to listen to this delightful music. It has been awhile so I think I need to see if I can find a CD. After all, I wouldn't want my Granddaughter to miss out on this special concert.
Happy Halloween!

Helpful tool

I know almost everyone is being very careful now days about spending their money. I've read several blogs about menu planning and cooking on a budget. I have a website that just might help with that problem. It's SundaySaver, com. This site shows all the Sunday specials for grocery stores all over the country. If you'd like to see what the specials are in my area click on Quality Markets. That's the store I work in at night. It also has the specials at electronic stores, pharmacies, etc. This is a helpful tool and much quicker that looking at the paper.
Just for fun I also have the site for the online Millionaire Game. Check it out and see if you would be a millionaire!
Our snow is almost gone and it's supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow!
Happy Thursday!

It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

Welcome!
We have had snow in out forecast for several days but nothing sticking on the ground, just a little in the air.

This is a little strip of garden I added to the side of the driveway a few years ago(summer pic). Burgandy Glo Ajuga (bugleweed) is planted on the outside of the bricks.
When I went out for pictures yesterday I spotted this one little Sun Rose (helianthemum) blooming.
I have a few colors of Dianthus in this space and they still had a couple blooms, as well.
They are a hardy plant that just keeps on bloomin' and comes back well every year.
These 2 pictures are also from this summer when plants were in full bloom.
This purple clematis grows on the trellis at the far end of this little garden.
Thanks for coming over for Bloomin' Tuesday! We are going to try to go all winter so if you would like to join us just put your name and permalink on Mr Linky. We would love to see what has been bloomin' where you are planted! Next week I would like to offer some seeds I have saved. It would be fun to have a seed swap so be thinking about what seeds you have to offer.
Now sit back and enjoy the garden tour.

Show and Tell

I have been looking for the perfect piece to put in an area of my kitchen. It is just a small area and the basement door is on one side and the door to the deck on the other. I have several things I can use but they are all so deep that it interferes with the doors. Last Sunday after going to a craft show I stopped in a small town with some nice shops. One large shop has clothes, knick knacks, vintage and antique stuff and a guy was unloading a truck with some furniture pieces.I found the perfect piece! I love that the hinges are all painted over andthe vintage latch. I love that it is rustic and I love the color. It is the perfect height to work well with the beadboard and only about 7 inches deep.
The perfect piece!

Thriftin'

Blogger is going to make me crazy today! Got my post all done, hit publish, gone! Now the pictures are coming up in the wrong order. Had to do 1 at a time.
I found this pretty glass basket at a sale.
It's not my normal style but it will be cute with candy in it.
For $1.50 I had to buy it!
I found this little oval dish in a garage. I love the color and the leaves and flowers look like fall.
It would be perfect for a bar of soap but who uses bar soap anymore? I'm sure I'll come up with some use for it or I'll just enjoy looking at it!

Now that's an entrance!

I was driving to a craft show on Sunday and drove past this driveway. I just had to stop and get some pictures!I've never seen anything like it but the setting was perfect.
It's on a country road that goes to a ski resort so there is plenty of traffic to enjoy it. I would of loved to drive in and see what the house looks like! Maybe if I go back when the trees are bare I can get a look.

It's Bloomin' Tuesday!

Welcome!

Today I am showing you what will probably be the last of my blooms for this season. I do have some pictures that I didn't show yet and I will be posting those on Bloomin' Tuesday as long as there are others posting also. Remember we are interested in all blooms even from a bouquet. Let's keep bloomin' all winter long!

I bought these first 2 mums this year. I've never had good luck with getting them to come back so I just left these in the pots.

I love the color of this salmon mum and I can't believe I planted it last year and it came back!

I also planted the next 2 daisy like mums last year.

They are just starting to bloom now so I think I need to move them to a sunnier spot next year.

I took the rest of these pictures Sunday.
